Rational Fire Design and Deem-to-satisfy Fire Protection design scope of work.

1. Assessment of the plans for the project in terms of the fire protection measures required to meet the requirements as legislated.  This is to be done in accordance with SANS 10400 and the Local By-laws, and will address the following:

• Provision of adequate life safety measures and means of escape for the occupants of the building.
• Means of limiting/controlling the intensity and spread of fire through the building;
• Adequate structural stability during a fire is maintained;
• The generation and spread of smoke is managed;
• Means of access for Emergency Services as well as equipment for detecting, controlling, and extinguishing a fire are provided.

2. Preparing a Rational Fire Design or Deem-to-satisfy Fire Protection Design for the proposed development.

3. Submission to the Local Authority for approval. 

4. Inviting and accompanying the Fire Department on a final inspection and obtaining a Fire Clearance Certificate for the project.
